• To perform secretariat functions for the Resident Shariah Advisor, act as a liaison between management and the Resident Shariah Advisor, conduct Shariah compliance reviews, enforce Shariah audit findings, prepare Shariah compliance reports, provide training on Shariah compliance, and carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the Resident Shariah Advisor
    • Serve as the secretariat for the Resident Shariah Advisor (RSA), providing all necessary support, including the timely preparation and provision of meeting agendas, proposals, and working papers.
    • Maintain accurate records of agenda items, meeting minutes, and fatwas issued by the RSA, along with their rationale.
    • Act as a conduit between the bank s management and the RSA to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
    • Review all product proposals, agreements, contracts, manuals, process flows, and checklists submitted by management before presenting them to the RSA for approval.
    • Analysis of Shariah-related matters under the supervision of the RSAy.
    • Prepare responses to Shariah-related client queries regarding the bank's products and services after consulting relevant stakeholders, and submit these to the RSA for advice, review, or confirmation.
    • Periodically review internal Shariah controls across the bank s business operations, branches, and head office departments to confirm compliance with fatwas and guidelines issued by the RSA, as well as directives and regulations issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in alignment with the rulings of the SBP s Shariah Advisory Committee.
    • Prepare and submit periodic reports to the RSA on the shahriah compliance of the bank and, enforce corrective actions directed by the RSA based on Shariah Compliance
    • Review Reports and Shariah audit findings, while coordinating with management to ensure compliance.
    • Collaborate with the Business Training Unit to identify training needs and develop training materials and organize Shariah training sessions as per the approved training plan.
    • Develop a comprehensive procedure manual, including checklists and standard operating procedures (SOPs), to guide staff in performing their duties effectively.
    • Ensure the bank s website provides a brief introduction of the RSA, the disclosures required by SBP, key features and differences of Shariah-compliant products from conventional ones, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and contact details of the Shariah Compliance Department personnel.
    • A bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, Islamic Banking/Finance, Economic or a related field and combined with a certification/diploma in Islamic Banking or Shariah, may also be considered.
    • Knowledge of Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) and Fiqh al-Muamalat (Islamic Commercial Law) is essential.
    • Certifications such as CSAA (Certified Shariah Adviser and Auditor) by AAOIFI or equivalent Shariah-compliance-related credentials are highly desirable.
    • Minimum 3 5 years of experience in Islamic Banking, preferably in Shariah compliance, product development, or advisory roles. Experience in the banking sector will be considered an added advantage
    • Skills required:
    • In-depth understanding of Islamic banking operations, Shariah standards (e.g., AAOIFI, IFSB), and regulatory requirements.
    • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and report-writing abilities to articulate Shariah issues and solutions clearly.
    • Capacity to liaise with the Shariah Board, management, and regulators.
    • Familiarity with Islamic banking operations and regulatory standards.
