Dr. Mithani is a senior social sector professional with progressive experience focusing on collaboration and partnerships at the highest levels of the Government, Donors and Organizations nationally and internationally on establishing strategic consortiums, fundings propositions, regional country collaborative partnership, co-designing and developing program and project, project Implementation nationally and internationally, research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy, strategic and institutional development.

With over a two decades of experience in child rights, education, social and child protection, learning achievement, early year’s programming and operations while working with donors, government, international NGOs, civil society organizations and academia.

His recent assignments include:
- Technical Consultant with The World Bank and Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) MoFEPT on strategic partnerships, capacity and systems development, improving the National Assessments Processes, Research and the Institutional Capacity Building of PIE on student learning achievements, policy linking SDG mid-term review and research. Developed a technical write-up on future of National Learning Achievements for Pakistan.
- Senior Consultant with Oxford Policy Management on developing Federal and Provincial Child Protection Policy in Pakistan, including Child Safeguarding and Data Protection & Confidentiality, Capacity Building of Social Service Workforce. Punjab Child Protection Policy was adopted and approved by the cabinet in June 2024. In addition, developed Monitoring Framework for the Pilot Project with Punjab Skills Development Foundation.
- Aga Khan University – Institute for Education Development as the member of the research committee, and
- As the Board Member for Democratic Commission for Human Development.
His professional career began at the Aga Khan University managing grants and contracts for Community Health Sciences Department that matured into working as a research fellow and as Assistant Professor with Aga Khan University – Institute for Education Development after his doctoral degree. His professional pursuits led him to assume Senior Management Position with the Aga Khan Education Service as Chief Academic Officer and as Chief of Monitoring Evaluation and Research Team. With Aga Khan Foundation, he served as the program advisor for USAID funded program leading collaborations with AKU-IED and AKU-EB and with the Ministry of Education.
He served as the Senior Director – Program Development and Quality, and Education and Child Development leading multi-thematic portfolio in Education, Health, Nutrition, Advocacy, Food Security and School Construction in development, humanitarian and post humanitarian contexts. His Early Learning program in Pakistan was globally recognised as the “Signature Program” validating the partnerships with the government and communities in generating evidence-based research using quasi-experimental design, a seminal work in the context of Pakistan.
He has served as the Chief of Party in Kyrgyz Republic on USAID project – Time to Read. His portfolio also includes review of laws on children enacted by federal and provincial governments in Pakistan against UN-CRC for National Commission on Human Rights and UNICEF. He led the team to conduct Midline Early Grades Reading Assessment with Management Systems International in Pakistan.
All his endeavors have worked in partnership with governments and has successfully sought funding and maintained active engagement with corporate and bi-lateral donors including: DFAT, USAID, DFATD, EU, Dutch, and other European donors.
