Pid controller based Automatic generation control using mat-lab simulation.

The Power System network consists of three parts major parts viz; Power system Generation, Power System Transmission and Power System Distribution. For the satisfactory and continuity operation of these Systems some control operations are required at every station. In an interconnected power system, the power system is subjected to local variations of random magnitudes and durations leading to the variation in the frequency and tieline power interchange. To accomplish the objective of regulating system electrical frequency error and tie-line power flow deviation to zero, a supplementary control action, that adjusts the load reference set points of selected generating units, is utilized. This control process is referred to as Automatic Generation Control (AGC).The role of AGC is to divide the loads among the system, station and generator to achieve maximum economy and accurate control of the scheduled interchanges of tie-line power while maintaining a reasonability uniform frequency. This thesis has proposed the AGC control of two area power system using PID controller for the power exchanges and frequency control. The test system consisting of two area power system has been designed in MATLAB/SIMULINK software version 2015a. The response of the PID controller has been tested for various power variations ranging from 100 MW to 250 MW. The simulation results of PID controller based AGC of two area system on various load variations has shown that PID controller has taken shorter settling time and lesser frequency undershoot. Thus, it can be concluded from above results that PID controller based AGC provides efficient sharing of power and better frequency control for two area power system.
