SIMULATION OF SOLAR UPDRAFT TOWER POWER PLANT USING EES

We are living in era of energy crisis. In this hour of need the renewable energy is the best choice among all.Solar Updraft Tower Power Plant (SUTPP) is a renewable energy power plant for generating electricity from the combination of wind and solar renewable energy. Two basic principles are behind power generation in solar updraft towers, the greenhouse effect and buoyancy-driven flow. Solar irradiation passes through the glass of the collector, is absorbed by the ground below, and re-emitted to the air under the greenhouse. The high-temperature, lower density air is funneled toward the tower. The buoyancy of the air creates a pressure difference in the column of the tower, driving the air from the base of the tower to its upper outlet. The kinetic energy of the air is captured by the turbine system, which is typically located at the base of the tower. It is obvious that, to raise the efficiency of this plant, the chimney height must be as high as possible, this is by and large, an aspect that calls for on-going and future research improvement. Thus, A high tower requires advance manipulation of stress analysis and proficient solid mechanics and adequate material selection skills. Consequently, the solar irradiation often strikes the solar collector at an angle whose magnitude is not easily accessible. The aim of this thesis is Thermal Analysis of solar updraft power plant on EES and compare the power outputs with different areas like Thar, Jamshoro. The governing equations used in the simulation consist of the Continuity equation, Navier-Stokes equations, Energy equation, and Radiation transfer equation. The results obtained from EES were nearer to the actual ones. This shows that the assumptions that were taken were nearly correct. The plant in Manzanares, Spain having structural parameters of 194.6 m of chimney height and 122 m of collector radius gives Power output of around 45 KW to 55KW with change in temperature on air of around 15K to 20K at peak load time
