Primary Health care is traditionally categorized into eight components. The PPHI seeks to emphasize the importance of each component for the comprehensive delivery of PHC services. The eight components are also symbolically represented by the eight sides of the octagon in the PPHI Logo, which surrounds a red crescent that reflects the spirit and mission of care, relief, help and support for the sick and the needy. The eight components are:
- Improvement of basic hygiene
- Adequate supply of drinking water
- Participation of the population
- Health and hygiene education
- Appropriate methods of treatment
- Maternal and childcare, including
reproductive health and family planning
- Improvement of nutritional status
- Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI)
