Steam Generation through Solar Irradiation by Optimizing Collector Design

Energy problem is one of the major issues that world is facing now a days. To overcome this energy gap, solar energy is one of the best ways. Using concentrated solar power (CSP), radiation from the sun are made to reflect by converging them on absorber , which is located at the focal point of reflector in which water is heated and will be converted into steam. The parabolic dish collector is designed with a 4 ft diameter and glass mirrors are placed on the surface of collector. The absorber, which is also known as receiver, made up of copper tube, is designed in a helical form. To capture maximum solar radiation dual tracking system is placed at the base of parabolic dish collector. Dual axis tracking system rotates the parabolic dish collector at different suitable angles to attain maximum solar radiations, which is operated electronically by the push of toggle switch. The use of solar energy has become more significant, through this high concentration ratio and high temperature can be accomplished. The temperature that we are achieving at the receiver is 180 degrees Celsius. 50 ml of water is converted into steam in 2 minutes with a pressure of 110 psi. This method of using concentrated solar power has the benefit of high efficiency and low cost, and can be used either for electricity generation or thermal energy collection. This paper focused on the fabrication, designing and generation of steam through parabolic dish collector. The designing of system is depend upon the following parameters: Aperture of the concentrator, Inner diameter of absorber tube, Outer diameter of absorber tube, Inner diameter of glass tube, Outer diameter of glass tube, Length of parabolic trough, Concentration ratio, Collector aperture area, Specular reflectivity of concentrator, Glass cover transitivity for solar radiation, Absorber tube emissivity/emissivity, Intercept factor, Emissivity of absorber tube surface and Emissivity of glass.
