The European Union is funding Pakistan Leather Competitiveness Improvement Program (PLCIP) under TRTA Phase III. PLCIP aims to directly support the Government of Pakistan (GoP) trade policy by working along the value chain of the leather products sector in fostering export diversification and the promotion of the leather sector; leading towards enhanced trade competitiveness, sustainable economic development, job creation and poverty reduction.
The specific objective of PLCIP improve access to and the consumption of demand-driven Business Development Services (BDS) by LP SMEs to contribute substantially to the competitiveness of the Pakistani leather sector and improve the international market access of Pakistani leather products.
Following activities are being implemented under the Program:
1. Establishment of Leather Competitiveness Cells at Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturer & Exporters Association (PLGMEA), Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PGMEA) and Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) at their offices located at Karachi, Sialkot, and Lahore respectively.
2. Competitiveness Need Assessment of the LP Sector through identification of 10 intervention areas for competitiveness improvement for each target group and improvement of access to international markets.
3. Capacity Building of the BDS/VET providers focused on Competitiveness Improvement in the LP value chain and development of services to enhance product quality and moving products up the value chain.
4. Marketing of BDS/VET providers via Showcases and trial audits and trial trainings to entice LP firms to consume BDS/VET services.
5. International Marketing Campaign for LP Sector for improved International Market Access of Pakistani LP Sector.
