INTRODUCTION

The Preschool 1 program is designed to allow the children to learn through play. We feel that children learn best when they are provided with environments in which they feel safe and respected by their caregivers. It is our goal to provide children with a positive environment, where they can feel good about themselves and their accomplishments.

For many children this is their first school experience and we understand that transitions may be difficult. We will work together with the child and parent to make this a positive and exciting year. In our program, we continuously meet the developmental needs of the children as they develop skills and require new challenges throughout the year. We do not move children based on his/her birthday, we advance children with their developmental age-group.


DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS GROSS/FINE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

PERCEPTUAL COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

• • Active and curious about what is going on around them
• • Simple classification
• • Places 10 objects in a container
• • Places 5 pegs in a peg board
• • Can follow a moving object such as a ball






SPEECH AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

• • Uses actions and words to express his/her feelings enjoys asking questions .
• • Follows simple directions
• • Speaks 50 to 200 different words
• • Refers to own self as "me" or "I"
• • Uses some plurals
• • Can sing along to songs and enjoys telling stories• Names familiar objects

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
