Siemens enjoys a leading position in Pakistan in the areas of Information and Communications, Power Transmission and Distribution, Industrial Solutions, Power Generation, Automation and Drives, Medical Solutions, and Transportation Systems. Siemens is the country�s No. 1 supplier of high-voltage grid stations, switchgear products and systems, power distribution and power transformers, and network consultancy. Siemens is the largest telephony supplier. The Power Generation (PG) Group is also a major player in the country. To date, the Group has added over 2,500 MW to Pakistan's power generation capacity, which represents 15% of the country's installed output. The Automation and Drives Group is the only major local supplier with 34 years of experience in the local manufacture of diesel generating sets to meet customer-specific demands from clients on both the domestic and international markets. The success story continues with Medical Solutions, which is the leading supplier of state-of-the-art equipment to major hospitals. In fiscal 2005 (October 1, 2004 to September 30, 2005), Siemens in Pakistan posted total sales of about EUR 373 million. New orders totaled EUR 490 million. With a workforce of more than 1,300 employees, Siemens is one of the most important employers in the country.

In fiscal 2005, Siemens achieved notable successes in the following areas:

Communications:
� The company received a major order for a turnkey country-wide GSM mobile network from Telenor, one of the world�s largest telecom operators. This was in addition to the expansion orders which Siemens continues to receive from two other mobile operators in the country, making Siemens Pakistan�s largest telecommunications infrastructure provider.

Power
� Siemens has supplied 14 grid stations to Dubai Electric and Water Authority and to the private sector in the United Arab Emirates.
� Siemens has been awarded a contract by Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) for a project linking the HUBCO power station to KESC. This project will have a vital and positive effect on the power supply situation in Karachi.
� Siemens has received an order from KESC to supply three new grid stations and to expand four existing ones.
� Siemens is supplying a combined-cycle power plant for power and desalination to the Defence Housing Society (DHA). This is the first project of its kind to be built in Pakistan.

Medical
� Major orders have been received from Aga Khan University Hospital and Tabba Heart Institute for angiographic units, an Avanto MRI system, an E.Cam gamma camera, and ultrasound and digital X-ray units.

In recognition of its services and achievements, Siemens has received a number of major awards, including:
� Two Export Trophy Awards for Engineering Goods and Services from FPCCI, the premier trade and industry body
� The Environment Excellence Award 2004 from the National Forum for Environment and Health
� The Top 25 Companies Award from the Karachi Stock Exchange
� The Outstanding Value Added Reseller Award 2004 from SAP Malaysia.

Most recently, Siemens has succeeded in convincing the government to sell its majority shares in CTI (Carrier Telephone Industries) to Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co. Ltd. Siemens has a majority stake in the 412-MW Rousch Power Project. The Siemens joint venture TIP (Telephone Industries of Pakistan) is continuing to produce state-of-the-art equipment for the expansion and modernization of various telecom networks in Pakistan.

Siemens' overall involvement in the region dates back more than 130 years. The company's name first became known through the construction of the Indo-European telegraph line from London to Calcutta in 1870. Siemens' first office in what is now Pakistan opened in 1922. The Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company Ltd. was founded in 1953 as a private company, and in 1963, the company was reorganized as a public limited company. Siemens is actively involved in university education in Pakistan. In 1997, the company set up a program to award gold medals to the best engineering students at Pakistani universities. Siemens offers full scholarships to students in the fields of medicine, engineering and business, and runs a three-year apprenticeship course at its facility in Karachi.
