I was selected as a top talent for UNLEASH 2019, among 18,000+ applicants. Out of 212 teams, our team 'Lucky Drop' made it to the pitching finals for the SDG6 Clean Water and Sanitation track with the farming solution we developed for low-income cotton farmers to improve their yield and reduce water consumption by up to 33%.With over 70% of water consumption attributed to agriculture in many developing countries, we identified this sector as an essential target to mitigate rising global water scarcity.Our solution involved adapting current high-tech urban vertical farming concepts to create vertical farming nurseries, a cheap low-tech system for rural areas in which cotton seeds can be germinated before planting in the field. With up to 98% water recycling, the deployment of this solution at larger scales could significantly impact water consumption across cotton growing regions - which are also those projected to be heavily affected by climate change.We'd been rewarded with Silver Winner award because of our impactful and innovative solution.
