Dawlance is a home appliances brand which is a subsidiary of Turkish company Arçelik. It is based in Karachi. During the internship, I worked in injection molding department of Dawlance and studied injection molding machines in detail with the focus on its maintenance and reducing its power consumption in barrel.
Projects:
1. Designing a Clamping System for Mold Change Time.
Facility had about 50 Injection molding machines which required frequent mold changes. Mold changing was taking a lot of time. The project included designing a system for significantly decreasing mold change time. It was achieved successfully by improvement in clamping system and some other processes.
2. Make Barrel Heating More Efficient.
Energy consumption and cost of barrel heating by conventional heaters was calculated and implementation of induction heaters was analyzed economically and its impact on the environment.
3. Finding a cheap alternative of grease removal oil and also reducing the time required by the process.
Through this internship I was able to have a better understanding of cement production from crushing the raw materials, grinding the mixture, preheating, kiln heating, cooling, mixing of gypsum to create cement.I also closely observed different machines including heat exchangers, Cyclones, Rotary kiln, Compressors, Valves, Rotary mill, Electrostatic Precipitator(EP), Rotary feeders, Belt and Screw Conveyors, Air Slides, Coolers(Unax and Delta).
