Utilization of low rank coal through Blending and Briquetting technology

I was group leader of our final year thesis project and that was Coal Blending and Briquette technology. as we know Pakistan has vast coal reserves but they are of low rank coal having high moisture,ash,sulphur contain and low calorific value. thus not safe for environment. There are also some other problems with raw coal like incomplete combustion, spontaneous combustion, handling,slacking etc so basically we used two techniques to utilize low rank coal in coal research lab of C.P.A Geology. Coal blending is a process of combining low grade coal with relatively high grade coal to increase the quality of low rank coal. Coal briquetting is a process which converts cocking coal, coal lump and slack or coal fine into uniform usually hard and impact resistance agglomeration, making it useful with high calorific value for domestic and industrial purpose. our project purposes were To increase the calorific value. To convert a low-grade solid fuel into a more, easily handled and attractive fuel. To reduce powder loss. To produce cokes from normally non-coking coals. To Decrease Environmental Effect Of coal Ignition. To convert coal as water resistive. To increase it,s abrasive resistance strength. For briquetting we also made manual mechanical press machine which was used to form compacted coal briquettes. Our result showed that after blending and briquetting strength of coal , its calorific value, combustion rate increased and coal became non dusty, coherent, abrasive resistance and easy to handle. Through briquetting We got complete combustion and By adding lime it emitted very low smoke so it became safe for environment.
