Usman A. Shamim, from Quetta, Pakistan, started his professional career in the year 2006. He has been a resource panelist for developing and editing a guidebook on drug outreach programs in Asia titled, “Concepts and Lessons Learnt” published by The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program Sri Lanka”.
He also implemented the U.S Embassy (Islamabad) funded project named Drug Treatment & Rehabilitation Centers in Kuchlak (Quetta), Pishin, and Killa Abdullah. The project successfully enrolled 424 drug addicts into recovery and rehabilitation programs, and additional 11,000 citizens were targeted for drug-related prevention activities. He was accepted based on this community effort for one-year Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship 2015-16 at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA.
He was able to take maximum advantage of lessons learned under his authoritative & democratic leadership styles to join 2010 flood relief effort teams, and travel to districts Jaffarabad & Nasirabad to lead relief service involving survey to understand the consequences and impact on the community in post-flood phenomenon. He was able to build emotional bonds and harmony with the victims to collect data and plan for long-term relief efforts which resulted in acquiring funding from the Australian High Commission to support 120 flood-affected families. This significant contribution resulted in his selection among 11 participants, who were selected among 171 applicants from 51 countries for the international course on Disaster Risk Management and Cultural Heritage in Kyoto, Japan during September 2012.
The opportunities that he got to work with different non-profit organizations and in the retail sector in their numerous projects along with international exposures to different countries, intensive learning, participation in the planning process, project designing, implementation, and management, understanding about project terms of references, logical frame model, literature review, and extensive field visits to rural areas of the country have greatly improved my knowledge, learning, and skills to initiate and participate in any kind of project by joining any organization to make it accomplish and producing desirable outcomes.
