Agriculture Officer

The Agriculture Officer will lead the technical aspects of agricultural interventions under the FIFSA project. They will provide expertise in sustainable farming practices, crop management, and food security strategies to ensure successful project implementation and measurable improvements in agricultural productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support

Develop and implement plans for sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices.
Provide technical guidance to farmer groups on improved agricultural techniques, pest management, irrigation, and soil health.
Design and oversee the establishment of demonstration plots showcasing best practices.

Capacity Building

Conduct training sessions and workshops for farmers on modern agronomic practices and food security techniques.
Develop easy-to-understand training materials tailored to the needs of the local farming community.
Mentor and coach farmers to adopt innovative agricultural methods.

Project Implementation

Ensure timely distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and tools.
Support the planning and execution of project activities, including field trials and community-based agricultural initiatives.
Collaborate with Social Organizers to align technical interventions with community mobilization efforts.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop performance, input usage, and farmer adoption rates.
Collect and analyze data on agricultural outputs and food security indicators.
Prepare detailed technical reports and contribute to project evaluations.

Collaboration and Networking

Work closely with local agricultural departments, research institutions, and NGOs to integrate best practices into the project.
Facilitate partnerships to improve farmers' access to markets, financing, and technology.
Represent the project at technical forums and community meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in agricultural development, food security projects, or rural livelihoods programs.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of agronomic practices and sustainable agriculture.
Expertise in climate-resilient agriculture and pest management.
Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Other:

Familiarity with local agricultural challenges and practices.
Willingness to travel frequently within project areas.
