We are a well-established UK-based firm seeking a highly detail-oriented and meticulous individual to join our team as a Payroll Assistant. This role is pivotal in supporting the payroll function for our diverse client base. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related activities, including PAYE, HMRC submissions, gross wages, pension submissions, and reconciliations, as well as statutory payments such as SSP and SMP. Experience with auto-enrollment processes is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing and Reconciliation:
Assist in the preparation and processing of monthly and weekly payrolls.
Ensure accurate reconciliation of payroll accounts, gross wages, and deductions.
Compliance and Submissions:
Prepare and submit PAYE and HMRC returns within required deadlines.
Manage pension submissions and reconciliations, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements.
Assist with the preparation of P45s, P60s, and other payroll-related documents.
Statutory Payments:
Calculate and process statutory payments such as Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) and Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP).
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate payroll records and reports, ensuring data integrity.
Support the preparation of payroll-related reports, including variances and analysis.
Problem Resolution:
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and queries efficiently.
Collaboration:
Work closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure seamless payroll operations.
Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience in payroll processing, with a solid understanding of PAYE, HMRC guidelines, and statutory payments.
Experience with auto-enrollment processes and pension scheme management.
Proficiency in payroll systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
