IRC has been working in Pakistan for approximately 40 years, managing and delivering large, complex programs to meet the needs in health, education, safeguarding, environmental health and livelihoods for displaced, poor and disaster affected communities. IRC works in partnership with local government and non-governmental organizations and is currently working across the country.

Job Overview/Summary:

This role would specialize in the management of engineering operations on daily basis. He/ She would have a more strategic role, planning, researching, and developing new ideas, and streamlining engineering operations.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluating the environmental impact and risks connected to the WASH infrastructures in the Environmental Health project.

• Find ways, means and innovate to reduce the hazards of poor wash services in the target area.

• Introduce cost-effective solutions (WASH) and highlight it to the government and other stakeholders.

• Monitoring progress of EH infrastructure during each phase of the project.

• Project Engineer will ensure that all construction sites meet legal/standardized guidelines, health and safety requirements, and keeping in view universal access guidelines.

• Project engineer is responsible for ensuring that designs and solutions are developed in consultation with communities, and are designed to meet the community’s needs, with sufficient and effective feedback on designs from the clients.

• Project Engineer is responsible for professional/technical engineering designs/drawings and review standards, surveys and inspections.

• Provides technical assistance and consults with other Governments departments and sister organization regarding engineering functions and site selection & development. 

• Provides interpretations of construction codes, State laws and departmental/organizational policies and its translation or reflection in IRC work.

• Provides guidance to the IRC-EH team on code compliance keeping in view the IRC standard operational procedures.

• Supervision/development/review the following.

• WASH infrastructure both in schools and villages

• Technical aspects of the project related to Environmental Sanitation

• Inclusive WASH approaches

• DRR/DRM resilient WASH infrastructure

• Development of BOQs

• Designing and construction of water supply schemes,

• Designing and construction of solid/liquid waste management system.

• Designing of different types of hand washing facilities.

• Assess potential risks, provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies during implementation of EH project.

• Supervise all the technical assessments and monthly evaluations of engineering activities and report all the activities to District Project Manager in a timely manner.

• Carry out other WASH and Engineering related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelors in civil/Environmental or any other Engineering field.

• Minimum 5-7 years’ engineering experience of working in Inclusive WASH projects.

• Computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, AutoCAD

• Demonstrated experience in designing water and sanitation infrastructure

• Knowledge and experience of the whole process of bringing designs from concept stage through design to construction and handover

Professional engineering qualification preferred

Language Skills: Urdu, English, Pashto with preference to local language
