PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Project aims to enhance immunization activities in high-risk union councils of selected districts through community engagement and strengthened service delivery, including primary healthcare and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). The project focuses on deploying mobile health units, identifying zero-dose and defaulter children to improve vaccine coverage and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases in areas with low immunization rates. Collaborating with key stakeholders such as the EPI Program, health departments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and local communities, the initiative emphasizes raising awareness, ensuring equitable vaccine delivery, and addressing immunization gaps to achieve sustainable health outcomes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Medical Officer (Mobile Van) will lead the delivery of comprehensive primary healthcare services, maternal and childhood care, including immunization, in underserved and hard-to-reach areas as part of a mobile outreach team. The role involves direct patient care, immunization service delivery, health education, and coordination with the community to ensure high-quality healthcare services while supporting project objectives to reduce zero-dose and under-immunized populations. The Medical Officer will also oversee the provision of free medicines to beneficiaries and ensure proper stock management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DESCRIPTION

1.     Clinical Services:

  •  Provide outpatient medical consultations, including diagnosis, treatment, and referral of patients in line with standard clinical guidelines.
  • Administer routine immunizations to eligible children and women as per EPI guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) and ensure timely reporting.
  • Deliver maternal and child healthcare services, including ANC, PNC, and counseling on family planning.
  • Identify and manage common communicable and non-communicable diseases in the community

2.     Provision of Free Medicines

  •  Prescribe free medicines to eligible patients based on clinical assessment and project protocols.
  • Ensure proper documentation of medicines distributed, including maintaining a stock register and patient records.
  • Monitor and report on medicine stock levels, highlighting any gaps or shortages to the Project Coordinator for timely replenishment.
  •  Educate patients on the proper use of prescribed medicines and highlight the importance of treatment adherence.

3.     Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate patient records, vaccination logs, and service delivery data.
  •  Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports, including immunization, OPD, and medicine distribution data, to the Project Coordinator.
  •  Assist in monitoring and evaluating program performance at the community level.

4.     Community Engagement

  • Introduce the program to the community leaders while initiating the session at specified area
  • Seek Collaborate with community outreach workers, CBOs, and religious/community leaders to identify and reach zero-dose and under-immunized children.
  • Participate in advocacy and demand-generation activities in partnership with the community and project stakeholders.

5.     Team Coordination and Logistics:

  • Ensure the mobile van is equipped with essential medical supplies, vaccines, cold chain equipment, medicines, and health education materials.
  • Supervise and guide vaccinators, paramedics, and support staff within the mobile team.
  • Liaise with district health authorities, EPI staff, and other stakeholders for effective service delivery.
