PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Project aims to enhance immunization activities in high-risk union councils of selected districts through community engagement and strengthened service delivery, including primary healthcare and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). The project focuses on deploying mobile health units, identifying zero-dose and defaulter children to improve vaccine coverage and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases in areas with low immunization rates. Collaborating with key stakeholders such as the EPI Program, health departments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and local communities, the initiative emphasizes raising awareness, ensuring equitable vaccine delivery, and addressing immunization gaps to achieve sustainable health outcomes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Community Outreach Worker will be responsible for implementing community-based activities aimed at increasing immunization coverage and promoting health initiatives within the local community. They will engage with community members, especially parents, caregivers, and school-aged children, to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination, address vaccine hesitancy, and identify zero-dose children and under-immunized individuals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DESCRIPTION

1.     Community Engagement & Awareness

  • Conduct door-to-door visits to educate families and caregivers about vaccination schedules and the importance of immunization.
  • Address misconceptions and provide information on vaccine safety, efficacy, and the benefits of vaccination.
  • Organize and conduct health awareness sessions in schools, community centers, and other public spaces.
  • Facilitate focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members, including parents, to understand and overcome barriers to immunization.

2.     Data Collection & Reporting

  •  Identify and track zero-dose and under-immunized children in the target community.
  •   Maintain accurate records of vaccination status, refusals, and other relevant data.
  •  Provide regular reports on outreach activities, progress, challenges, and outcomes to the supervisor.

3.     Collaboration with Health Teams:

  • Work closely with EPI vaccinators, mobile health teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that immunization campaigns are successfully carried out.
  • Help organize immunization campaigns and mobilize the community for participation.
  • Coordinate with local leaders, community health workers, and other stakeholders to ensure support for immunization initiatives

4.     Advocacy & Support:

  • Advocate for immunization at the grassroots level to help increase demand and overcome vaccine hesitancy.
  • Support community-based activities like art competitions, health talks, and campaigns that promote immunization.

5.     Health awareness activities conduction:

  • Organize and facilitate community-based health awareness activities focused on key topics such as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), proper hygiene practices, vaccination, nutrition, general well-being, and prevention of seasonal illnesses.
  • Engage with community members, particularly women and children, to promote healthy practices and behaviors that contribute to improved health outcomes.
  • Distribute informational materials, conduct interactive sessions, and utilize local media to spread awareness on these critical health topics
