PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Project aims to enhance immunization activities in high-risk union councils of selected districts through community engagement and strengthened service delivery, including primary healthcare and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). The project focuses on deploying mobile health units, identifying zero-dose and defaulter children to improve vaccine coverage and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases in areas with low immunization rates. Collaborating with key stakeholders such as the EPI Program, health departments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and local communities, the initiative emphasizes raising awareness, ensuring equitable vaccine delivery, and addressing immunization gaps to achieve sustainable health outcomes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The SBCC Officer (EPI) is responsible for enhancing community engagement component by developing outreach plans for community outreach workers and conducting follow-ups to identify defaulter and zero-dose children. This position involves mobilizing community groups, such as health committees and volunteers, through frequent meetings to strengthen partnerships and ensure effective delivery of immunization sessions. The SBCC officer is responsible for creating strategies that educate the community about the importance of vaccinations while documenting best practices, challenges, and success stories to evaluate the program's impact. Ultimately, this role is focused on fostering effective community engagement and supporting team efforts to achieve better immunization coverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DESCRIPTION

1.     Strategy Development

  • Develop comprehensive SBCC strategies tailored to the health and immunization needs of target populations.
  • Develop an SBCC annual work plan and take the lead in implementing all activities.
  • Integrate cross-cutting themes such as gender, protection, and cultural sensitivity into SBCC strategies to enhance defaulter coverage and ensure routine immunization.

2.     Intervention Design and Implementation

  • Design and implement SBCC interventions, including campaigns, community mobilization activities, and educational materials encouraging 24/7 birth dose.
  • Utilize various communication channels, such as community meetings, mass media, and digital platforms, to disseminate key messages on mother and child health, birth vaccine, and routine immunization.
  • Conduct community assessments to identify key behaviors, influencers, and barriers related to immunization.
  • Engage health workers and volunteers to promote and support SBCC activities and to identify defaulters and zero-dose children.
  • Collaborate with religious leaders, community elders, and other influential figures to gather support and advocacy for vaccination efforts within their respective communities.
  • Facilitate community engagement sessions to foster dialogue, address misconceptions, and encourage behavior change.
  • Support the establishment and strengthening of community-based structures, such as health committees and peer groups, mothers'/fathers' support groups to sustain SBCC activities.
  • Ensure timely implementation and adaptation of SBCC activities based on community feedback and monitoring data.
  • Create opportunities to support/arrange radio message campaigns, advocacy forums, community engagement sessions, and information education communication materials.

3.     Capacity Building and Technical Support

  • Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops and training sessions for staff, volunteers, and community members on SBCC approaches and techniques.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and supervision to field staff to enhance their SBCC skills.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the quality and effectiveness of SBCC activities.

4.     Documentation and Reporting

  • Assist in documenting project results and impacts in various forms, including media stories, lessons learned, case studies, client satisfaction, and other areas, and contribute to regular quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Contribute to the production and distribution of periodic success stories as well as producing advocacy briefs and leaflets.
  • Collect and analyze data on behavior change indicators and community feedback to inform program adjustments.
  • Prepare regular reports on SBCC activities, outcomes, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders.
