You will oversee the maintenance and enhancement of the landscaping in a housing society, ensuring the green areas, gardens, lawns, and communal spaces are healthy, attractive, and properly maintained. The supervisor will manage a team of horticulturists or gardeners, coordinate day-to-day operations, and ensure that horticultural tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule. The role requires excellent knowledge of plant care, landscaping techniques, and environmental sustainability practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the upkeep of lawns, flower beds, gardens, trees, and shrubbery in all common areas of the housing society.
  • Ensure that planting beds are regularly maintained, including seasonal planting, weeding, and deadheading of flowers.
  • Implement care programs for trees, shrubs, and plants, including watering, pruning, and fertilizing to promote healthy growth.
  • Manage grass cutting, edging, and leaf clearance to maintain clean and tidy grounds.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the gardening and horticulture team.
  • Train team members on best horticultural practices, safety protocols, and the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress.
  • Respond to resident requests regarding green space maintenance or landscaping improvements.
  • Promote and implement eco-friendly and sustainable horticultural practices within the housing society, including water conservation, organic gardening, and waste recycling.
  • Manage composting and mulching programs to reduce waste and enrich soil.
  • Identify and address pest infestations, plant diseases, and other threats to plant health.
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides as necessary, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain organic and environmentally safe treatments where possible.
  • Oversee the proper functioning of irrigation systems, ensuring that plants receive the correct amount of water.
  • Monitor water usage to ensure efficiency and prevent water wastage.
  • Manage the budget for horticultural activities, including purchasing plants, tools, fertilizers, and other supplies.
  • Keep inventory of horticultural equipment, tools, and supplies, ensuring they are maintained in good condition and restocked as needed.
  • Ensure that all horticultural work is carried out in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for the horticulture team, including ensuring the safe use of chemicals, tools, and machinery.
  • Conduct regular safety training and ensure that staff follow safety protocols.
  • Work with management and, if needed, landscape architects, to plan new green spaces or renovations to existing areas.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of new plantings, hardscapes, and design elements as directed by housing society Management.
  • Maintain detailed records of all gardening and landscaping activities, including planting schedules, pest control treatments, and plant health monitoring.
  • Prepare reports for housing society management regarding maintenance activities, seasonal tasks, and overall landscape health.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, pest management, lawn maintenance, and landscaping design.
  • Experience with irrigation systems, watering schedules, and soil management.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing landscaping issues.
  • Familiarity with sustainable gardening and green practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure a high standard of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Horticulture, Landscape Management or a related field.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management for gardening operations.
  • Previous experience working in a residential community or housing society.
