The Agriculture Assistant will be based at the SIF Field office in Dir Upper and Chitral, KPK and will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and reporting climate-smart agriculture, horticulture, and water conservation interventions in Dir Upper and Chitral District under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. S/he will technically ensure adherence to the standards of humanitarian work while implementing project-related activities in a timely manner.

In addition, s/he may be called upon to carry out surveys, participatory needs assessments, or any other activity that may be deemed necessary.

Objective 1: Implementation Activities:'

  •  Assist in designing, implementing, and promoting water conservation strategies, particularly through the construction and maintenance of water ponds.
  • Educate farmers and communities on the benefits of water ponds for irrigation, soil health, and crop yield improvement.
  •  Conduct workshops and training sessions on sustainable water management practices.
  • Provide technical support to farmers on best practices in crop management, soil conservation, and the efficient use of water resources.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of agricultural projects that align with water conservation goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of agricultural practices and water conservation methods in improving crop yields and water efficiency.
  •  Conduct field visits to assess the suitability of sites for water pond construction and provide recommendations for improvements.
  •  Oversee the construction and maintenance of water ponds, ensuring they are built to standard and are effectively conserving water.
  •  Collect data on water usage, crop performance, and soil conditions to inform ongoing conservation efforts.
  • Work closely with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation in agriculture.
  •  Collaborate with community leaders, NGOs, and government agencies to support the adoption of water ponds and other conservation practices.
  •  Facilitate community meetings and discussions to gather feedback and address concerns related to water conservation initiatives.

Objective 2: Coordination Activities

  •  Maintain close liaison with CBOs and farmer committee.
  • Establish strong liaisons with all relevant departments and get the technical guidance, day-to-day lessons, and best practices replication in implementation.

Objective 3: Documentation Activities:

  • Ensure proper documentation.
  •  Developed case studies/ success stories.
  •  Final report of different activities works.

Objective 4: Reporting Activities:

  •   Report all the activities to the project manager in a timely manner.
  •  Collect and analyze the reports and provide necessary feedback to the concerned.
  •   Prepare field visit reports and other ad hoc reports.

Education

  •     University degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, or a related field..

Experience

  •     Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in field work and community organization.
  •           Experience in conducting training and sensitization session for community and beneficiaries.

Languages        

  •           Fluency in English and Urdu. Fluency in local Language is a plus.

     Knowledge

  •   Good computer skills; word, excel and PowerPoint including good report writng skills.
  •      Excellent computer knowledge with command on MS Excel among other packages of MS Office.
  •       Ability to organise work schedule on regular basis and flexibility; discrete and respectful to confidentiality.
  •         Good Team player and motivated to work in remote and uncertain environment respecting standard operating procedures as devised and instructed.
