Job Responsibilities
Pre-Authorization Specialist Duties
Submit authorization requests for procedures and referrals to insurance providers
Track and follow up on pending approvals
Coordinate with healthcare providers and insurers to collect required documentation
Maintain up-to-date authorization records and ensure compliance with guidelines
Accurately prepare and submit claims to insurance companies
Verify insurance coverage and apply correct CPT and ICD-10 codes
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims; file appeals when necessary
Resolve billing discrepancies by liaising with providers and insurers
Key Skills & Responsibilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong grasp of medical terminology and US insurance processes
Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
Experience with EMR/EHR systems and insurance portals
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Maintain confidentiality and uphold data security standards
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma (required)
Preferred: Degree or certification in medical billing/coding or health information management
Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory):
CPC (Certified Professional Coder – AAPC)
CCS (Certified Coding Specialist – AHIMA)
CMRS (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist – AMBA)
Experience:
Minimum 1 year in US-based medical billing/coding
Hands-on with EHR systems and billing software
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
Familiarity with US healthcare billing and insurance claims
Soft Skills:
Sharp attention to detail and analytical thinking
Strong time management and organizational skills
Effective communicator with a positive attitude
Ethical handling of patient information and data
